@AnthonyMaslo

Anthony Maslo in his own words is a "twenty-eight year old, pink haired, gemini wildchild/goody two shoes hybrid". Living With his Fiancé Follin and his two cats Flamingo and Wicca he Recently left behind his former job in pursuit of his artistic passion as a full time Florist. Saying "I have always wanted, or had a goal/vision of retiring and being a florist with a greenhouse and a small flower farm" Deciding to follow his dream now instead of later, Anthony dove headfirst into his passion for flowers by reaching out to florist that inspired him and acquiring his own signature style "I started going to the flower market every week and getting these large hauls to practice making arrangements and it made me fall deeper in love with it."  If you Follow Maslo on Instagram his page and story is a full of eye catching flowers and arrangements. "flowers can be some of the prettiest compliments to our senses," Anthony says "and capturing that on social media and sharing that feels very honest and kind" Splashed with hues of pink, soft textures, and his ever evolving and colorful beard and hair Anthony's Instagram has always been a personal favorite, but its his Passion and love for creating such beauty with flowers that made him a perfect choice for curating a mix with. Named after one of his favorite Flowers "Anthurium" is a collection of songs that is as beautiful and eclectic as the flowers Anthony arranges.

Anthurium- Anthony Maslo's Mix

00-1:40 -Jhene Aiko- LSD-- Opening with the sound Wind Chimes, I can picture the flowers placed around Anthony's LA apartment swaying to the growing beats of LSD From Jhene Aiko's Sophomore album "Trip". An album currently on repeat for Anthony He states his love for Jhene stems from her lyrics and the beauty in her double or even triple meanings the young R&B songstress uses throughout her music. A short but sweet song LSD leaves you wishing it were longer to get lost in.

1:41-5:06 Paradis- Toi En Moi - Always making it a point to search for bands and albums in other Languages, One of Anthony's favorite discoveries is French Duo Paradis. "Toi En Moi" Translating to "You And Me" from their Album "Recto Verso" one of his favorites from the album, is a shimmery disco tinged song thats bound to get stuck in your head. With the duo's calming vocals asking in french "Un petit peu toi et moi Et toi t'en penses qui?" meaning " A little you and me, what do you think?" They leave you dancing and singing in a language you may not have spoken before.

5:06-8:36- Abra- Roses - A song i immediately knew i had to include in Anthony's mix comes from the self proclaimed "Darkwave Duchess" Abra. Her song Roses from her debut Album "Rose" is over flowing with Flower references, from her singing "But you taste best when you're in full bloom Lay in my teeth, my sweet love trophy You can't be killed if I rip from the roots" To her chanting "The Thorns Are Showing" Made this song an easy choice to include for a man, who loves to take the danger and beauty of a rose to new heights with each arrangement he uses them in.

8:37- 11:32- Kelis- Bless The Telephone (Trinidad-Senolia Deep Remix)- When asked which albums he could listen to forever Two Kelis Albums made his list. Stating "I adore her voice. I believe both food and flesh tone are completely under rated. Kelis has a really humble vibe to her music with just enough attitude." Choosing to weave this remixed Version of Keli's Cover of Labi Siffre's "Bless The Telephone" into his mix i felt this version echo's his sentiment of Kelis, Its Humble with just enough attitude.

 11:32-14:53 -Pet Shop Boys- West End Girls '7 Mix'- One of the best live performances Maslo ever witnessed comes from the legendary 80's Synth pop bands Pet Shop Boys. If you have ever had the pleasure of seeing this iconic band play live it would be hard to deny. From the stage designed by Es Devlin to the dancers wearing multicolored boxes on their head and moving in breathtaking precision, Pet Shop Boys Pandemonium Tour is Unforgettable much like their #1 hit West End Girls which is a perfect representation of the bands unique sound and look.

14:55-19:57-  Tash Sultana- Jungle- "Tash is an ultimate musician in my eyes," Anthony Says "From her voice to her talent with instruments. It’s apparent in a lot of her live performances that she plays for fun, and I think I catch that in her music when I listen to it. There’s a passion that she has for her own kind of music and it’s refreshing.  I love getting high, like reallllly high, and having a glass of wine and playing jungle on repeat. It reminds me of Long Beach, where I discovered her music. " Jungle From Tash Sultana's EP 'Notion' is definitely a monster of a song, Psychedelic, sexy, confident and raw, Tash is bound to become huge with this much passion in her music.

19:58-22:36- The Orbweavers- Poison Garden- A song hand picked by me for Anthony is the Melbourne band The Orbweavers single 'Poison Garden' A gorgeous ballad about the Alnwick Garden aka The Poison garden in England that is filled with beautiful plants that can all kill you. Lead singer Marita's voice floats above angelic beats singing about Fox glove and Deadly night shade so sweetly that you can help but wanna lay down in that garden so full of danger and beauty and drift off to this deadly song.

22:36 -27:43-Lana Del Rey - Million Dollar Man (live at Concert Prive)- "You said i was the most exotic flower " Lana Croons at the beginning of this live performance from French TV. One of his favorite singers of all time Lana Holds a special place in Anthonys heart. Recounting the time he saw her at Tinley Park he said It was "50 degree weather while it was raining sideways. I smoked my whole pack of cigarettes in the rain, a few blunts with two of my best friends, and had a beer that I couldn’t tell if I was even drinking because the rain kept it full no matter how fast I tried keeping up with it. All while swaying to that angel." Choosing This Live version of Million Dollar Man from her Iconic first Album Born To Die i felt like its classic Lana, Full of heart Ache, Beauty, Passion and brilliant song writing, Her cracked vocals and breathy melodies make this version feel all the more sincere.

27:44- 31:12 -Jewel- Who Will Save Your Soul- A self proclaimed guilty pleasure Jewels 'Pieces Of You' album bring Anthony Back Saying " I LOVE this album, it reminds me of being a kid. I used to LIVE for, Get out of bed for VH1’s Pop Up Videos. and I remember seeing Jewel often, specifically one week where she remained in a top spot on the countdown." A hit that any of us 90's kids will always remember 'Who Will Save Your Soul' is classic and in my opinion a guilty pleasure worth blasting.

31:14-35:17- Cub Sport- Ultra Light Beam (Kanye West Cover)- An Artist that came up a lot in Anthonys Pick was Kanye West and when asked for a favorite he said " It was hard for me to pick a favorite by Kanye, but I chose ultra light beam for one sentence, “this is a god dream” That line speaks so much to me, I interpret god, personally, as universe, so when I hear that from Kanye I get the sense he’s meaning that this is all a god dream, life is up for us to decide, to make and to create. Kanye as an artist is a genius to me, everything from his old mixes to his new, overly confident, and societal questioning in his lyrics like, what if we just fucked at this vogue party, would we be the life of the whole party? " Choosing to use the Australian Band 'Cub Sport's live Version of Ultra light beam instead of the original because when covering such an iconic artist its hard to retain the same spirit but upon listening to this cover, I couldn't help but feel its something even Kanye would approve of.

35:18- 37:14Lorde- Homemade Dynamite ( Live Vevo Session)- Sitting in place for one of Anthony's most spun albums of this year Lordes Melodrama is hard to deny. The most requested artist of all my mixes Lorde dominates the queer music world and for good reason, because she's fucking amazing. Choosing this live version of Homemade Dynamite Recorded for vevo just fit so perfectly in the mix i couldn't leave it out.

37:14- End George Ezra- Don't Worry Be Happy (Bob Marley Cover)- We all have those songs that will forever make you smile and for Anthony 'Don't Worry Be Happy' Is One of them. When talking about love and music he reminisces a story about his Fiancé Follin saying "One of the many times I realized I was in love with him was when we went out the night before, I got a little too drunk, and woke up with the booze blues.  He sang to me “don’t worry be happy” by Bob Marley.  It made tears fall down my face it was the sweetest and most beautiful moment." Using George Ezras cover to end this mix where it began with following your heart and doing what you love.
